The Institute secured a total budget of 14.9 M€ in 2019. The competitive budget represents a 62 % (9.3 M€) and 38 % comes from the CSIC (5.6 M€).

The budget from the European Union represents a 28 % of the total budget (4.2 M€), and 18 % of the total budget comes from the Ministry of Science and Innovation (2.6 M€). The budget from private sources (including contracts and services) represents a 3 % of the total budget (0.4 M€).

A 56.6 % of the budget devoted to the scientific projects carried out at the ICMAB comes from the European Union, a 35.9 % from the Ministry of Science and Innovation, a 5.1 % are Industry Contracts and a 2,4 % is funding from the Generalitat de Catalunya. The EU funding has been extraordinary high during the last three years 2017-2019.

About half of the total ICMAB personnel costs (10.7 M€) is funded by the CSIC (45 %), while the other half are funded by projects (36 %), other fellowships (15 %), ICREA (2.5 %) and CIBER (2 %).
